Classic Classroom: Get Your Own Name – Maureen O’Sullivan, Margaret Sullavan, and Maureen O’Hara
I didn’t make any resolutions this year but had I done so, this would have been on the list. The goal? To keep straight the who’s who between Maureen O’Sullivan, Margaret Sullavan, and Maureen O’Hara. Uff da!
Let’s begin:
Maureen O’Sullivan
Me Tarzan, She Jane – O’Sullivan played the role of Jane in six Tarzan films in the 30′s and early 40′s.
Who Wouldn’t Throw Themselves at Nick Charles? – She had a prominent role in The Thin Man (my second favorite film.)
Rosemary’s Mother – Maureen O’Sullivan is Mia Farrow’s mother. Did not know that.
Margaret Sullavan
I Love the The-ah-tah – Sullavan only made 16 films. She preferred acting on the stage.
Dear Friend, – Of the sixteen movies, four co-starred James Stewart including The Shop Around the Corner, which You’ve Got Mail is based on.
Tinseltown Wedding Bells – She was married to actor Henry Fonda, director William Wyler, and agent Leland Hayward.
Maureen O’Hara
Irish Rose – The Irish-born O’Hara was known for her beautiful red hair.
The Duchess – O’Hara made five films with John Wayne including The Quiet Man and Rio Grande.
Mother May I? – She played “mom” to Natalie Wood in Miracle on 34th Street and Hayley Mills in The Parent Trap.
Got it?
